Video playback from presenter view

Hi OnlyOffice Team,

First of all, thank you for the fantastic work you’re doing!

I’d like to suggest a feature that would greatly improve the user experience: the ability to embed inserted videos directly into PPTX presentation files. Currently, videos are linked externally, which means users must keep both the presentation file and the video files in the same folder. This creates inconvenience, especially when sharing presentations—users have to compress and send the entire folder, including the presentation and all video files.

Embedding videos directly would streamline the process, making it easier to share and manage presentations without worrying about missing or misplaced video files.

Thank you for considering this improvement!

Hello @nicolas.a.grandin

Do I understand correctly that you use Desktop Editors? If so, pelase specify the platform (OS), installation type (DEB/RPM packages, EXE/MSI, flatpak, etc) and version of the app.

Generally, Desktop Editors allow adding videos directly to the presentation.

Hi @Constantine

Yes, I use Desktop Editors—apologies for not mentioning that earlier. The issue occurs across Ubuntu Noble (snap), Arch Linux EndeavourOS (DEB), and Windows 11 (EXE).

To clarify: I can add videos to the presentation without any problems. The issue arises when the pptx file is moved to a different folder than the videos. In that case, the videos no longer play in the presentation.

I did a simple test:

  1. Created a folder and added a video and an empty presentation to it;
  2. Opened the presentation and inserted the video via Insert tab > Video > selected the video in the same folder;
  3. Saved the file, closed the editor;
  4. Moved the presentation from the folder to another folder;
  5. Opened the presentation from another folder and played the video.

In this scenario the video plays normally. Did I miss anything in the scenario? Can you record the described behavior from any of your devices for better understanding of the performed steps? By the way, if the issue occurs to a specific file, please attach it for tests.

Hi @Constantine,

That’s interesting—your solution actually works fine now.

However, I’m still encountering a few issues. Let me clarify:

Your test works perfectly when using the “Start slideshow” button. But in “Show Presenter View” mode, the video plays in the Presenter window but not in the Presentation window. Additionally, if I try to play the video directly from the Presentation window, it still doesn’t work well.
Here you’ll find a recording and a pptx file.

Thanks in advance !

Thanks for the reply. About the issue with the Presenter View: we are aware of this issue and actively working on it. I’ll let you know once it is resolved.
