after updating to OnlyOffice 9.0.4, I’ve encountered a major performance issue when working with XLSX spreadsheets. The application has become extremely slow when opening, editing, or scrolling through any spreadsheet.
I’ve tested this on multiple installations — both on macOS Sonoma and ZorinOS (Ubuntu-based Linux) — across two different machines, and the problem occurs consistently on all setups.
This slowdown affects all XLSX files, regardless of their size or content, so it doesn’t seem to be file-related.
In comparison, version 8.x handled the same files without any lag or performance problems.
It looks like a regression introduced in the new version.
Has anyone else experienced this behavior, or found a possible workaround?
We attempted to reproduce the issue on our test environment (both Document Server v9.04 in browser and Desktop Editors 9.0.4) by opening, scrolling, and editing XLSX files, but everything worked fine without any performance problems.
To investigate further, could you please:
Update to version 9.1 => v9.1 was recently released with significant spreadsheet performance improvements. Try updating and let us know if the issue persists
If the issue continues after updating to 9.1 => Could you record a short video showing the performance issue? And can you share a sample XLSX file that demonstrates the problem?
This information will help us identify the cause of the performance regression.
Thanks for the reply! I tested version 9.1 tonight on macOS and Zorin. The speed seems to have improved a lot with the latest update, although 8.3.3 still feels slightly snappier. I made two comparison videos opening the same file on both releases, and you can still notice a small advantage for the older version.
Anyway, unlike 9.0.4, this update is now fully usable. However, since I’m a new user, I can’t upload attachments.
