Emoji characters do not display correctly even when using the font " Noto Color Emoji
(https://fonts.google.com/noto/specimen/Noto+Color+Emoji)
On the web version, I set the font to “Noto Color Emoji”. Then i pasted an emoji character, and it just displayed a black and white version.

With the finger point right character, it was changed to black and white finger pointing left character.
I am guessing that the software cannot handle 4 byte unicode characters (supplementary planes).
- Emoji extended set.
- Historic and rare scripts
- Music notation
- Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols
- Rare Chinese, Japanese, and Korean characters
- Game symbols and miscellaneous (mahjong, playing cards, etc.)
This bug exists in both the Desktop and the web version.

Hello @zzmonty
Can you demonstrate how symbols are displayed in the editor for better understanding?
Also, please elaborate on what you mean as web version. The category is set to Docs, but according to the description, you are not using Document Server, which confuses me.
Hello
,
I’m bringing this topic back up: on my end, the colored emojis aren’t displaying at all either, and some emojis aren’t appearing at all.
I’m using OnlyOffice (desktop version) and I’ve also tested the web version, without success.

I am running Linux (CachyOS).
Is there a module or package that can be installed to fix this issue, or is it a bug that is currently being resolved?
Thank you in advance.
Hey @J33,
Thanks for bringing this back up and adding the screenshot — we appreciate it!
We do have a known bug related to colored emojis not displaying properly (often showing black/white or missing entirely), and it’s frequently tied to font handling on Linux (and sometimes macOS too). The thread you linked is exactly about this issue:
https://community.onlyoffice.com/t/bug-can-t-use-emoji-on-mac-os/1578
To help us confirm whether it’s the same problem on your setup (CachyOS), could you please attach a small test file (.docx ) where the emojis look wrong? Just a few lines with different colored emojis will do — that way we can open it exactly as you see it and compare.
Upload it directly here or via ONLYOFFICE DocSpace/kDrive and share the link. Thanks in advance!
