When I save a document as a docx file Amazon can’t read it. It is NOT 100% compatible with MS Word.

Does this issue occur with all docx files saved in the Editor? Also, by ‘Amazon,’ could you clarify what exactly you mean? Please provide detailed steps to reproduce the issue.

An book saved as a docx file is rejected by amazon kdp when I upload. Amazon does not recognize the file. If I load the document into MS word first and save it from there it works. But I kinda wanted to get rid of MS word…

Also just tested WPS Office. Works like a charm…

Please provide some additional information about this case. What product is used? Is it ONLYOFFICE Docs or Desktop Editors? What is the version of used product?

In general, do you create document from zero or it is saved after some edits?

Dunno what you mean. I just open a word document with Only Office and when I save it I can see the size changes dramatically and Amazon doesn’t recognize the file. Haven’t tried from scratch. Version says: ONLYOFFICE/9.0.4.50

Thank you for the reply. Can you provide a sample document that is opened in Desktop Editor and no longer accepted after save? Does KDP return any error/warning when uploading the document?

Generally, ONLYOFFICE editors comply to OOXML document structure, so it is possible that the original file itself is the root of the problem. Based on that, I have asked to try creating a document from scratch in ONLYOFFICE and uploading it in test purposes.

By the way, I am still interested to know which product is used. ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors is an office suite for your desktop PC, ONLYOFFICE Docs is the same office suite, but for online use, i.e. in the browser. The category of the topic is set to Docs, can you confirm that Docs is used?

Today I got new error from amazon: Uploaded on October 18, 2025 09:19 AM GMT. The file you uploaded is corrupted. Please save a new copy of your file in one of our supported formats and upload again. Refer to our formatting guide for more information.

Earlier it just failed with no explanation.

I use the desktop version 9.1.0.167

Typically documents saved with Only office is only half the size of the same document saved by MS word.

I usually open the document in MS Word after saving in Only office, and simply save it again. Then I can upload to Amazon.

Your system will not let new users upload documents.

I just installed OnlyOffice and tried it out. I have the same issue. I opened Word or whatever you call it and made a test document and uploaded it to office.com:

I checked the file with Claude and this is the result:

  • Orphaned relationship files – word/_rels/comments.xml.rels exists, but word/comments.xml does not. This is invalid OOXML.
  • Bloated styles.xml – 637 KB for a style file is absurd (normal would be ~10 KB).

What I found: OnlyOffice created faulty relationship files that refer to non-existent XML files. This is a bug in OnlyOffice.

Sadly with these issues I cannot use the program, because I am depending on others to be able to open and edit my files.

I use ONLYOFFCE Desktop Editors (Community-Version 9.2.0.100 (flatpak))) with Ubuntu 24.04
