XLSX opens at first cell instead of last position in 8.3.3.21 (Windows 11)

In Microsoft Excel, an .xlsx workbook reopens exactly at the last active sheet, cell, and scroll position. In ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors, the same .xlsx file always opens at cell A1 (top-left corner of the sheet), no matter where the cursor or scroll position was when the file was saved and closed. This occurs 100 % of the time.

Hello @AeternaMens

This query was registered earlier and should become available in version 9.0 of Desktop Editors. Currently, position is remembered for the last edited cell before save and it is expected behavior.

Thank you for confirming that this issue is known. I’ll be looking forward to the fix in the upcoming version.

You mentioned: Currently, position is remembered for the last edited cell before save.

However, I’d like to report that this also does not work on my side.
I’ve tested it multiple times — no matter where the edited cell is before saving, the file always opens at the very first cell (A1), with both horizontal and vertical scroll positions reset to 0.
I have read that this is expected behavior in the current version, but I can confirm it simply doesn’t work for me at all.

Also, I’d like to report a second issue related to scroll bar behavior in large spreadsheets.
When clicking on the right empty area of the scroll bar, the page scrolls by a reasonable chunk — this is fine.
However, when the sheet is near the end (i.e., no more data further right), clicking the scrollbar causes a huge jump, and visible cells with actual content disappear off-screen.
I have to scroll back manually every time, which is inefficient and time-consuming.

For reference, Microsoft Excel handles this correctly — scrolling never hides all actual content.
Please consider improving this behavior in future releases as well.

Thanks again for your attention.

Please let me know Os of your device and installation type of Desktop Editors.

As for the second reported issue: please start a new topic to avoid mixing up several issues in a single topic.

Thank you for your reply.

I’m using Windows 11 with all updates, and the Desktop Editors were installed via the EXE installer from the official ONLYOFFICE website.

Regarding the second issue — sure, I will create a new topic for that shortly. Thank you for the clarification.

Thanks. So upon opening, focus jumps to A1 – does it happen in a particular spreadsheet or even with a new one?

At first, I noticed this behavior in existing spreadsheets (created earlier, in MS Office).
Then I read that the issue might be caused by files created outside of ONLYOFFICE, so I tested it with a new file created directly in Desktop Editors and filled it with data.

Unfortunately, the problem still persists - the file always opens with the scroll bars at the start positions, regardless of the last edited cell before saving.

That is strange, because I tested it just now and it works for me. Can you make a video record of this behavior?

I’m afraid I don’t have the means to record a video at the moment.

I can confirm the issue with 9.0.0 as well. It doesn’t save position, but it does open saved position.

Steps to reproduce.

  • Make a new Spreadsheet in OnlyOffice.
  • Place position at some cell. Let’s say E10.
  • Save.
  • Close.
  • Open.
  • Load.
  • Loaded at A1.

Open in any other office. Loading at A1 as well.

But.

If you save position in any other office and then open the file in OnlyOffice, it will open at correct cell, E1 for instance.

So it doesn’t save, but does load selected cell.

E10 for instance*

Hello @coth

Provided scenario refers to an active cell. I was referring to last position as edited cell, which should work as expected. If it wasn’t clear, then please accept my apologies.

For active cell an enhancement exists and it is, indeed, is not yet available in the editor.

I’ve installed the latest version, ONLYOFFICE 9.0.3.29, and the issue still persists. Even the active sheet (tab) is not remembered.

That is, even if I scroll the sheet, edit a cell, and save the file, it still opens on a different sheet and always starts at cell A1, with both scrollbars reset to zero.
