We have an Enterprise license that expired at the beginning of 2022. Currently, we are running OnlyOffice in Docker with Document Server version 7.0.0.x.
Despite the expired license, we are still able to use OnlyOffice, and the previously purchased license for 100 connections continues to work.
However, we would like to update the OnlyOffice version (for security reasons). Is the only option to purchase a new license and then upgrade to the Enterprise version?
Additionally, could you please let me know which version was the last one before AI features were implemented?
We’re glad you’re still using ONLYOFFICE Docs after all these years!
Upgrading from 7.0.0 (early 2022) will be a very pleasant surprise
Regarding your expired Enterprise license (100 connections):
It’s unusual that it still allows editing without any restrictions or log warnings — normally, after expiration, you should see warnings in the Document Server logs and editing should become restricted (view-only mode). Perhaps the license validation was bypassed somehow or cached in an unusual way.
For renewal / upgrade questions, the best way is to contact our sales team directly: sales@onlyoffice.com
They can check your old license record, offer renewal options, provide a trial license for testing the new version, or explain upgrade paths.
Updating via Docker is indeed one of the easiest ways.
However, for Enterprise Edition features (including full cluster support, advanced admin settings, etc.) you do need a valid/current license. An expired one will not be accepted.
Quick answers to your questions:
Trial license for testing
Write to sales@onlyoffice.com and ask for a temporary Enterprise trial key — they can generate one specifically for your setup so you can safely test the upgrade process without buying right away.
Last version before AI features
AI is an optional plugin (AI Assistant) that users install separately via Plugin Manager.
You can safely upgrade to 9.2.1 (or even newer).
