You can simply create a style to apply for any selected text. Alternatively, if your style only requires a font change, you can simply choose necessary font from the list of recently used ones.

You are looking for a character (text) stylee, not a paragraph style.
Select the word, go to the “Styles” panel, create a new style, and set it to apply to the selected text. Then choose a monospace font (like Courier New). You can reuse it inline anywhere.
In my experience, this works consistently across setups, though on some cloud deployments, it feels a bit smoother when working with larger docs.
