Support native OnlyOffice solution on synology NAS

Hello team,

I would like to request native integration of ONLYOFFICE with Synology NAS, specifically Synology Drive.

Today, the only supported method is to run ONLYOFFICE Docs as a standalone Docker container on Synology. While this works as an independent document server, it cannot integrate directly with Synology Drive. This means that opening a document inside Synology Drive cannot launch the ONLYOFFICE editor/preview interface natively.

What I hope for:

  • Ability to open Office documents stored in Synology Drive directly in ONLYOFFICE (just like how Drive previews PDF or photos).
  • A native connector/plugin so that Synology Drive can pass files to an on-NAS ONLYOFFICE Docs instance.
  • No need for additional third-party cloud storage, no additional “wrapper” web apps, and no need to deploy another full file-sync platform like Nextcloud or DocSpace.
  • A seamless user experience where clicking a Microsoft Office document (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx) in Synology Drive automatically opens it in ONLYOFFICE for viewing or editing.

Why this is important:

  • Synology Drive is already the primary file management system on the NAS.
  • Users want a simple, native solution without duplicating storage or running multiple file platforms.
  • Synology NAS hardware is fully capable of hosting ONLYOFFICE Docs locally.
  • Many users rely on Drive daily and would greatly benefit from integrated online editing.

There is strong demand in the community for this capability. A native connector would make ONLYOFFICE a perfect pairing with Synology NAS, similar to how ONLYOFFICE integrates with Nextcloud, ownCloud, Seafile, etc.

Please consider adding native Synology Drive integration or providing an official plugin/connector. It would greatly improve the user experience and unlock the full potential of ONLYOFFICE on Synology NAS.

Thank you!

Hello @ayaka

I was informed that such integration has been considered in the past. Due to architecture of the Synology Drive itself, it is quite difficult to develop a stable and reliable integration.

It is possible that the situation could change, but there is no news on that, unfortunately.
