Spaces between words that are removed when editing text in PDF format

When editing text in a PDF document (generated from a Word document in OnlyOffice), spaces are removed throughout the page. I use windows 11.

I also encounter that issue. Did you find why it does that ?

Hello, @Graziano88 @tyanu_khah
To investigate, please tell us:

  • Which ONLYOFFICE app you use (Desktop Editors, or web editor) and the exact version/build.
  • Please attach a short screen recording showing the steps until spaces disappear.

Hi,

I have only noticed this issue when editing a PDF with the web version. I have tried with the desktop version and the issue did not appear.

Editing with the desktop version and reopening the file is OK (blacked out some company info) :

Editing with web breaks the file after reopening (spaces are removed) :

I hope that’s clear enough.

Note that it doesnt happen with all the files : tried with some powerpoints that i turned into PDF and those have no issues. I checked if it wasnt a character issue (like some weird half space character or something) but all documents are using the U+0020 ANSI space.

Thanks for the screenshots!
We managed to reproduce the issue on our side and we’re checking it now.
We’ll get back to you as soon as we have more information.

Hi, @tyanu_khah
We checked the issue on our side: with the latest ONLYOFFICE Docs 9.3.0, the problem with “shifted” text formatting in PDFs after editing (when the text starts overlapping table cell borders) does not reproduce for us. In 9.3.0 there were major improvements related to fonts and PDF handling, so please update to 9.3.0 and re-check the behavior with the same file.

If the issue still persists after the update, please let us know:

  • The exact version/build you’re running (after updating) and your installation type.
  • A sample PDF where the problem is still reproducible, and if possible a short video showing the steps: “edit → save → close → reopen”.
