PowerQuery in spreadsheets in Desktop Docs

Hi,

I’m evaluating ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors as a possible replacement for Microsoft Office across our organization.

Several of our existing .xlsx workbooks rely on Power Query to import and reshape data from SQL Server. When I open these files in the Spreadsheet Editor, [describe exactly what happens: the queries are not recognized / the data is shown as static values only / the connections are lost after saving / the file does not open].

My questions:

  1. Is Power Query (the M engine / Get & Transform) supported in any form in the current version?
  2. If not, is it on the roadmap? Is there a recommended workaround (a plugin, the built-in automation/macro API, or external preprocessing)?

These workbooks are currently a blocker for migrating the users who depend on them, so any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi @sistinfocasaspa, and welcome to the community!

Power Query is not currently supported in ONLYOFFICE Spreadsheet Editor.

One important thing to be aware of before migrating: Power Query workbooks can be opened, but any save operation removes the query definitions, connections, and Data Model metadata from the file. If that file is then reopened in Excel, the Power Query content is gone.

This is a known issue tied to our Power Query equivalent currently being in development.
We don’t have an ETA to share at this moment, but we’ll update this thread once it’s resolved.
