Permissions in docspace collaboration room

I have a collaboration room. and I found this lovely document that explains some of the permissions.

I’m a little confused between what these categories are called.

  • administration/users/guests
  • owner/room admin/user/guests
  • room manager/content creator/editor/viewer - user types?

what are they?

what is the difference between a “room admin” that is a “content creator”, vs a “user” that is a “content creator”? -

I’m particularly confused as to why a “roomadmin” as a content creator can’t rename files.

The below page says that a user can rename files.

the below page doesn’t tell me what a content creator can or can not do.

thank you. I’m usually pretty well versed in setting up permissions, but you have me very confused.

Hi elnino! There are two separate systems here:

User types (portal-level): Owner → DocSpace Admin → Room Admin → User → Guest — control what sections you can access.

Room permission levels (per-room): Room Manager → Content Creator → Editor → Form Filler → Reviewer → Commenter → Viewer — control what file operations you can do inside a room.

A “Room Admin” with “Content Creator” room permission can’t rename files because renaming belongs to Room Manager permission level only — not Content Creator. User type and room permission level are independent; even admins are bound by the room role assigned to them.
