Performance Issues When Opening Large PPTX Files

Hello OnlyOffice Community,

I am experiencing significant performance issues when opening PowerPoint (.pptx) files in OnlyOffice Document Server. Here are the symptoms:

  • Large .pptx files take a long time to open.

  • The interface becomes unresponsive until the file fully loads.

  • Lag is noticeable while rendering slides, especially with images, charts, or complex animations.

Environment:

  • Deployment: Docker

  • File size: >30MB

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Upload a large .pptx file.

  2. Open the file in OnlyOffice editor.

  3. Observe the loading time and responsiveness.

Questions :

  • Are there known optimizations for handling large PowerPoint files?

  • Can server-side resources (CPU/RAM) or configuration tweaks improve performance?

  • Are there recommended limits for .pptx file size or content complexity?

Any advice, best practices, or configuration tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi @greatios,

Thanks for the report! To look into this, could you share a bit more:

  • Document Server version and edition
  • Deployment — standalone Docker or integrated (Nextcloud, etc.)?
  • Host specs — CPU, RAM, and any container limits
  • Browser and version
  • File details — a sample file if possible
  • Timing — roughly how many seconds until the editor is usable, and whether the lag is on initial load or also while scrolling/editing

A short screen recording would also help us pinpoint where the delay happens.

Thanks!
