PDF partial text selection fails on first open in Comment mode until switching to Edit and back

I ran into a PDF selection issue in Comment mode.

When I first open the PDF and leave it in Comment mode, I cannot highlight just part of a line. If I try to highlight only the part number in a line item, it selects the whole line instead.

If I switch to Edit mode and then switch back to Comment mode, it starts working correctly and lets me highlight only part of the line.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open the PDF in ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors.
  2. Leave it in the default Comment mode.
  3. Try to highlight only part of a line, for example just the part number in a line item.
  4. The whole line gets selected instead of only the selected text.
  5. Switch to Edit mode.
  6. Switch back to Comment mode.
  7. Try the same partial highlight again.
  8. After switching modes, partial highlighting works correctly.

Expected result:
I should be able to open the PDF in Comment mode and highlight only part of a line right away without switching modes first.

Actual result:
On first open in Comment mode, partial text selection grabs the full line. After switching to Edit mode and back to Comment mode, partial text selection works normally.

This file is a generated acknowledgement report that lists purchased line items.

The same PDF works correctly in Adobe Acrobat and Foxit.

I have not attached the original PDF because it is a generated business document and I do not want to post it publicly. Editing or rebuilding the file may change the behavior, so I can provide the affected PDF privately if needed.

I’ve tried several PDFs for the provided scenario, but did not manage to reproduce the issue.

That’s correct, for the test purposes you can share the original file that produces the behavior in PM - click on my avatar and use MESSAGE to start a PM.
