Option to disable overwhelming smart guidelines

Hi! I want to compare how guidelines work in PowerPoint and in OnlyOffice and in the last one they are overwhelming. It becomes an issue, especially if you’re trying to align an object which is a group and consists of a lot of other ones. Personally, I need just the top-most object to be considered (its bonding box) while alignment, not all the nested ones. Please add an option to switch to this (PowerPoint-like) behavior in OnlyOffice.

Hello @EmilyGraceSeville7cf

Please elaborate on how exactly this share was created. As I can see it comes as a single shape, but it does not seem to be merged into a single shape.

By the way, merging shapes can be used as a workaround.

I’ve grouped rectangles and then tried to align them.

Merging shapes is not always a desired solution as:

  • if shapes intersect depending on how they combined (which boolean operation is used) their stroke for instance will be changed accordingly to fit the boolean operation type
  • it’s a destructive operation, meaning that you can’t unmerge shapes easily

Hey @EmilyGraceSeville7cf,

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback and video — we’ll definitely consider adding an option to make smart guides less “overwhelming” (e.g., only take the group’s bounding box into account, like PowerPoint does).

It would still be super helpful if you could attach the actual .pptx file you used in the video — this way the team can test it exactly and see the grouping structure.

Thanks again! :hugs:

Here’s the .pptx file in PowerPoint Web.

Hey @EmilyGraceSeville7cf,

Thanks for the file — we’ve logged this as a bug.

We’ve added your request to the ticket, though I can’t promise an immediate fix. The more people who chime in and say “yes, this bothers us too”, the higher it climbs on the priority list. So if you have friends or colleagues who feel the same, feel free to point them here!

Thanks again for the clear report and the example file — really helps!
