OnlyOffice macOS 9.0.4 Apple Silicon creates empty 'onlyoffice' folder at start-up

When starting OnlyOffice 9.0.4 Apple Silicon an empty folder entitled ‘onlyoffice’ is frequently created in the root of my home folder tree (so in my case /Users/Clem/onlyoffice). The folder can be deleted but reappears.

There are no application settings that I can find to alter this behaviour, nor is it clear what this folder is used for.

If the folder does need to exist for some reason, then I believe that there should be a settings option to specify where the folder is created, for example ~Documents. If there is no real requirement for the folder to exist, then I would prefer that it not be created. I have made no use of it.

Is there any way to prevent this empty folder being created?

TIA.

Hello @Clem_Dye

Do you have an exact scenario under which this folder reappears? This seems to be a bug, but after initial removal I cannot make it reappear. We would gladly analyze this case.

Hi, no, and that’s the odd thing. It will randomly appear say once every two or three sessions (from memory), but I can’t be sure. I have some spare time tomorrow (Friday) and I’ll see if I can spot anything that triggers it. BR, Clem

Hi, I have found a way to reproduce the empty folder issue. There may be others, but hopefully this will point the way to a fix.

I started OO as normal, created a document and started working on it. At this point, the ~onlyoffice folder was absent in the root of my home folder tree. However, the moment that I saved the document (saving to my Desktop in this case), the empty folder appeared.

I deleted the empty folder and saved the document that I was working on under a different name, again, to my Desktop. As before, the empty folder appeared. I deleted the empty folder again.

Finally, I created a spreadsheet, added a few details, then saved it, again to my Desktop. As before, the empty folder appeared.

Again, I deleted the empty onlyofffice folder and re-saved the spreadsheet, this time to my ~Downloads folder. Yet again, the empty folder reappeared.

I haven’t tested saving every document type and so forth, but it seems that the act of saving a file causes the empty folder to be created.

Thank you for the scenario. I was informed that this behavior is a bug. It has been registered and there is already work in progress. I’ll keep you posted on the details.

It’s probably all part of the same behaviour, but if you open an existing file, make changes then save it, the empty folder is recreated again if not already present. It would seem to me that the folder creation is linked to the file save operation.

Although I didn’t test extensively, I couldn’t reproduce the behaviour using OO 9.0.4 on my Linux Mint system, so this would seem to be a macOS only problem.

We are working on it. I’ll keep you posted.

Understood. Sorting bugs takes time. I mentioned the additional bits just in case it helped identify the issue.
