ONLYOFFICE Docs Community Edition – Is the simultaneous connection limit for editing only, or does it also apply to viewing?

Hi,

I’m using ONLYOFFICE Docs Community Edition and I understand that there is a limit of 20 simultaneous connections.

I would like to clarify the following:

  • Is this limit applied only to active editing sessions,
    or does it also apply to view-only (read-only) sessions?

More specifically:

  • If 20 users are editing documents at the same time, will additional users still be able to open documents in view mode?
  • Is there any documented or enforced limit for simultaneous viewers?

This distinction is important for capacity planning in on-premise DMS deployments.

Yes, the limit is applied to active editing sessions only. However, there are two modes for viewer: “regular” viewer and live viewer. The difference is that in live viewer mode users are able to see the changes made to the document in editing mode, whereas in “regular” mode they can only see current state of a document.

You can find a note at the end of this article that says:

Please note that the server connections for the live viewer are counted separately from the total number of simultaneous connections and limited with the connections_view parameter in the license. For the open source version, this limit is 20. The live viewer is not available for the older licenses.
