No connection to Nextcloud on Android: "Wrong Server"

ONLYOFFICE Mobile: Documents
Do you want to: Ask a how-to question

When trying to connect the onlyoffice app to nextcloud via cloud tab, I’m always receiving the message “Falscher Server” (in German, most likley “Wrong Server” in English).
I tried with http://, https://, the IP address (192.168.xx.249/nextcloud) and FQDN (nextcloudpi.xxx.com/nextcloud).

The configuration (nextcloudpi.xxx.com/nextcloud) works with the Windows desktop app on my portable computer, but not on Android mobile phone.

What am I doing wrong on Android?

Device: Samsung S25
OS version: Android 16
App version: 9.2.1
Mode: Connect to Cloud
Additional information:
both devices (computer, mobile phone) are in the same wifi

I had this same issue starting this morning. For me the issue was that users who used their email address to sign into NextCloud in the OnlyOffice app now fail.

The solution was to delete the existing NextCloud cloud app and add it again, but be sure to use the user’s NextCloud ID and NOT their email address as their username.

Then it worked fine for me and my users. I’m not sure if it is the same thing in your case or not, but worth a try.

There is an old open GitHub issue about this with NextCloud, but they do not seem interested in fixing it and it seems to only happen sometimes randomly.

Thanks, but this doesn’t help me, because I do not get to a login screen, after entering the server address, I directly receive the message “wrong server”

Hello @Octopus

Please enable logging in the mobile app to get more information about the issue. Logs are accessible after clicking several times on ONLYOFFICE logo in settings > About section of the app.

Basically, the way to get precise logs is:

  1. Enable logging by clicking logo;
  2. Open System logs tab from About section;
  3. Clear out the journal with refresh button in top right;
  4. Try connecting to your Nextcloud;
  5. Check out logs.

You can download logs as .txt and provide here for analysis.

Sorry, but neither txt-files are allowed nor new users are allowed to upload files at all…

Ok, uploaded the txt-file here: https://limewire.com/d/1ErUO#NpadVFsmza. Tried connecting via http and https with url and ip address… https and url works on desktop app.

Thanks. I cannot see anything related to the connectivity issue, which is very unusual. Please try resetting the apps’ cache and then logging again. By the way, do I understand correctly that your Nextcloud is located behind a proxy in a virtual path? For instance, https://youraddress/nextcloud.

I’ve uploaded two log files again, because I still cannot attach files to this post:

There are two files, one after the cache has been cleared, one after clearing the data and starting from the scratch.

The nextcloud server is not behind a proxy, nextcloud is just not installed in the www root. Client and server are in the same LAN. As mentioned before, with the windows desktop app it workes well with the same settings.

Sorry for the delayed response. Unfortunately, the link says that it is incorrect. Can you check it out?

Sorry, since I’m not allowed to attach log files and now no more allowed to post links to the log files (and my former posts are flaged as spam, too) I give up and change to a more friendly environment.

I am sorry to hear that. If you decide to continue troubleshooting by any chance, please let me know.
