Guidelines for alignment of objects when editing a PDF

Suggest a feature

Desktop Editors version: 9.2.0.100

Greetings,

Please implement the feature to see guidelines/alignment lines when moving objects/text-fields around when editing a PDF.

The feature I’m asking for is already implemented when creating PDF forms. We can see the guidelines when placing new objects in the form. Guidelines with respect to the surrounding objects, page border/center etc.

This is very useful for a consistent(perfect) look if we move objects in an existing PDF.

Thank you,
RohitJ.

Hello @RohitJ

Do you refer to regular PDF files, i.e. the ones without forms? Also, do I understand correctly that you are moving objects in “Edit Text” mode of the PDF editor?

Greetings,

Yes. I refer to any general PDF. The PDF might be created by any app in the world.(eg. OO Document Editor). Yes, this about the “Edit Text” mode.

Regards,
RohitJ.

Thanks for the reply. You see, PDF do not have regular margins as DOCX document and there is no anchor for guidelines to appear. Have you encountered any applications that do have guidelines for PDF?

Greetings,

Thank you for replying.

On the outset, I would like to thank all the contributors to this wonderful project. Also I understand that PDFs are not supposed to be edited but sometimes it becomes a compulsion when a critical document received from others has some errors and there is no scope of asking them. Also converting and re-converting the PDF to editable format like .doc, .docx, .txt etc is not perfect (I have tried multiple apps/websites) and has lots of risks (formatting mismatch, etc). So, editing PDF directly is the solution.

As per your reply, I now realized that what I have seen in two other apps (libreoffice draw, adobe acrobat pro) have different types of guidelines. Whenever an object/textbox is moved, the object boundaries extending in all directions appear which look like guidelines. Attaching a small video showing the same. As a new user, I am not allowed to upload anything here.

This implementation will do. Please make this work.

Regards,

Thanks for the video. I have forwarded your suggestion to the dev team, please await the feedback.

We have added your suggestion to the internal bug tracker under the number 80192. Once it is implemented, I will notify you. Thanks for the interest.
