Freezing any column or any row

In version 9.2.1.43 one has the possibility to freeze the table’s view for 1. column, 1. row and any cell in both axis.

It would be beneficial to extend the 1. column and 1. row option to any column and any row depending on the active cell (same usage as for freezing both axis).

Hello @ProfMat

You can freeze any amount of rows and columns by placing a cursor into a cell below/after necessary rows and columns. For instance, if you want to freeze 1st row and columns A and B, then placing a cursor into the cell C2 and using Freeze panes either from context menu or from View tab > Freeze panes options > Freeze panes would give you necessary result.

If I misunderstand your description, please elaborate.

Hello @Constantine,

thanks for your reply.

I am looking for a way to freeze e.g. only column C - without freezing any row, or row 2 without freezing any column.

If I mark a cell - e.g. C2 - I am forced to freeze both, rows and columns - which I do not want.
The menu as such only allows to freeze first row or first column - which is quite inflexible.

I rather like to mark C2 and freeze EITHER between rows 2 and 3 OR between columns C and D - not both at the same time and not just row 1 or column A.

But I just realized that I need to mark the entire column C and then “freeze panes” in order to get the desired result - or to mark the entire row 2 before applying “freeze panes”.

So - functionality is there, but hidden. Maybe it is worth to put it explicitly into the menu for better access (freeze panes, freeze first row, freeze first column, freeze selected row, freeze selected column)

This is default behavior that is consistent across other processors too.

You can select column D and right-click it to open context menu, from which select Freeze panes to freeze columns A, D and C.

You can select 3rd row and perform the same action as above to freeze rows 1 and 2.

Note: you cannot freeze only a specific item, e.g. only column C, without freezing other items before it (A and B).
