Feature requests for Presentation Editor – Start from current slide shortcut, Slide Grouping and Quick Access Toolbar

Hello OnlyOffice team,

I recently switched from Microsoft Office 365 to OnlyOffice and would like to share the most important features I miss in the Presentation Editor.

I work in a branding agency that creates brand books and presentation templates for corporate clients. We design templates that employees of our clients can easily use. Recently, we have received several requests to develop templates specifically for OnlyOffice. That’s why we started working more actively with your office suite. I’m writing this not only on my own behalf, but also on behalf of the companies we work with.

Here are the features that create the most discomfort during daily work:

  1. Keyboard shortcut to start slideshow from the current slide In PowerPoint, this is done with Shift + F5. In OnlyOffice, I can only start the presentation from the current slide by right-clicking the slide and selecting “Start slideshow” from the context menu. When you work with many presentations every day, this becomes very inconvenient. The functionality already exists — it would be great to simply add a keyboard shortcut (preferably Shift + F5 to keep it familiar for users switching from Microsoft Office).
  2. Ability to group slides This is especially needed when working with large presentations (50+ slides). Grouping allows us to logically organize sections, quickly collapse/expand them, and navigate much faster. This feature is heavily used in PowerPoint when creating complex structured presentations and templates. Its absence in OnlyOffice significantly slows down our workflow.
  3. Custom Quick Access Toolbar (customizable icons in the top menu) It would be very convenient to have the ability to add frequently used commands to a customizable toolbar at the very top of the window, similar to the Quick Access Toolbar in Microsoft Office. OnlyOffice has quite a large default interface scale, so being able to hide the main ribbon and keep only the most needed icons would give significantly more workspace for slide design.

These were the first notable inconveniences we encountered after switching to OnlyOffice. As we continue working with the suite, I will create additional feature requests if other important gaps appear.

I also miss some slide transitions, but I saw that their number will be expanded in version 9.4, which is great.

Thank you for your great work and for developing a strong alternative to Microsoft Office. I hope these suggestions will be considered. I’m ready to provide more details or examples if needed.

Best regards,
Volodymyr Golembivs’kyi

  1. Keyboard shortcuts for alignment similar to Figma Fast alignment of objects is critical when creating professional templates. It would be very convenient to have the following shortcuts (matching Figma’s conventions for users who work in both tools):
  • Align Left — Alt + A
  • Align Right — Alt + D
  • Align Top — Alt + W
  • Align Bottom — Alt + S
  • Align Horizontal Centers — Alt + H
  • Align Vertical Centers — Alt + V
  1. Repeat Last Action with F4 In Microsoft Office, pressing F4 repeats the last action (e.g. formatting, moving, resizing, etc.). This is an extremely time-saving feature when working with many similar objects. Adding support for F4 would greatly speed up repetitive tasks in OnlyOffice.
  2. Ability to change the fill color of SVG icons Currently, when I try to recolor an SVG icon, OnlyOffice fills the entire bounding square instead of changing the color of the icon’s stroke/path itself. It would be very useful to have proper support for recoloring SVG vectors (both fill and stroke), just like in PowerPoint and most modern design tools.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your detailed suggestions and for sharing your workflow with ONLYOFFICE.

There are already registered feature requests for the following items:

  • keyboard shortcut to start a presentation from the current slide,
  • slide grouping / sections in the slide list,
  • customizable Quick Access Toolbar.

As for the rest of your suggestions, we have forwarded them to our QA team to check the possibility of implementation.

We will update this thread as soon as we have any news.

I want to let you know that the rest of your requests have been added to internal tickets (feature requests/bugs) so the team can better prioritize them.
We cannot share exact timelines, but your feedback is now fully linked to the ongoing work on these improvements. We will post an update in this thread as soon as there is any news regarding their implementation.
Thank you once again for helping us make ONLYOFFICE better.
