Error ‘Wrong Server Login or Password’ in OnlyOffice Mobile App with Nextcloud

I’m experiencing an issue when trying to connect my Nextcloud server to the OnlyOffice mobile app. I log in with my username and password, and the server accepts the credentials. However, when I tap ‘Grant Access,’ I get the error message: ‘Wrong server login or password.

I can open and edit documents in OnlyOffice through the Nextcloud web interface without any issues. However, the mobile app fails to connect.

What I’ve Tried:
• Verified username and password.
• Confirmed OnlyOffice integration works via the Nextcloud web interface.
• Ensured HTTPS is enabled and SSL certificates are valid.
• Updated the OnlyOffice mobile app to the latest version.”

Hello @codenamesabir
Please reproduce the situation and record a video file.
Additionally, please specify mobile app version and device’s OS.

iOS App 9.02
iOS Version 18.5

Hello @Yummiweb
Please reproduce the situation and record a video file. Also please bear in mind that official languages of this forum are English and Chinese.

Hi Alexandre, unfortunately I can’t make a video - it would be difficult to anonymize it.

I’ll describe the problem in more detail:

iPhone (no matter the model)
iOS - currently 18.5, but also all previous versions tested.
OnlyOffice app version 9.0.2 - but also all previous versions known to me (first tried about half a year ago)

The app is supposed to connect to a cloud service, in my case, that would be my own Nextcloud. Since I have access to several self-hosted Nextcloud versions, I was able to test the behavior with Nextcloud 28, 29, and 30. The problem is the same in all configurations. It’s also the same on all devices (various iPhones). I’ll describe it step by step:

  1. Basic procedure:

1.1. The app is opened and opens.
1.2. I go to “Clouds” and “Nextcloud” in the menu at the bottom (or to “Other Cloud” and then to Nextcloud, it doesn’t matter).
1.3. I enter the server address, examples:
“sub.domain.tld” or https://sub.domain.tld" and click “Next”.
1.4. I land on a kind of info window for logging in to my respective Nextcloud instance “Connect to your account”.

Now there are several login methods; I’ve tried all of them.

    • Username/Password Option (Login)

2.1. First, click “Login”.
2.2. The login window (username/password) for my Nextcloud instance appears.
2.3. I enter my user credentials as usual (as I would in a browser on my computer) and click “Login”.
2.4. An “Account Access” info window appears. I click “Grant Access”.
2.5. An error message appears in the app: “Error”. Server, login, or password incorrect." (I click OK to close the message.)

Of course, my login credentials are correct – I can tell this from the fact that I see a new device in my Nestcloud under “Personal” > “Security” that has been successfully linked. This wouldn’t be the case if I had used incorrect credentials.

  1. I now test this with the other login option, “Alternative login using app password”:

I repeat steps 1.1 - 1.4 and am back in the “Connect to your account” information window.
3.1 This time, I select “Alternative login using app password.”
3.2 Two input fields open, “Login” and “App password,” in which I enter the required information.

I previously created the required information in my Nextcloud under “Personal” > “Security.” There, I entered “onlyoffice-test” as the app name and clicked “Create new app password.” A window with the app login credentials appears, consisting of my username and a generated code.

3.3. I now enter this information in the input fields (step 3.2).
3.4. An error message appears again in the app: “Error. Server, login, or password incorrect.” (I click OK to close the message.)

The information was entered correctly. I can also copy and paste the information, but the same error message appears.

PROBLEM:
It doesn’t matter which method or version of Nextcloud I try to connect to, the error appears every time. For months, I haven’t been able to log in to a single OnlyOffive app on any iPhone to any of my or similar Nextclouds.

Unfortunately, the app doesn’t offer a way to test login via QR code.

To support my credibility, I’ll be happy to provide screenshots.

Here are the screenshots - corresponding to the numbered points.
As a new user, I can only attach these individually…

This is really strange. I just used my iPhone and successfully logged in to my Nextcloud instance:
iOS: 18.5
mobile app: 9.0.2
NC version: 31.0

Is it possible to provide a test account to your Nextcloud instance? This way, we will check out the situation on the spot. If so, please contact me via PM.
