I would classify this as a bug, although it’s likely the usability was simply never added.

Steps to reproduce:

Use the “filter” to find documents with a certain name, across folders.

The list of docs appear.

Usability issue #1: The file listing doesn’t include where the documents are. At minimum, a simple “mouse over” or “tooltip” that shows the folder structure of where the document is would be helpful.

Usability issue #2: If you right click the doc and choose “Open location”, it does indeed open the location. However, it opens in the same browser window, so you lose you search results.

Usability issue #3: Clicking the back button from the “open location” link doesn’t return you to your search results, so you have to search again for your search results.

With multiple files across multiple folders, this becomes a real usability issue, real fast.

Hello @charles

Instead of using filters, which is specifically used for filtering the files in current location, you should use global search on the portal. This search provides more information, including file locations for the found documents. Please refer to this article:

Thanks. That does indeed work better.

That said, the usability issues of “filter” still exist.

Filter is used to actually filter documents in the current folder, so it does not specifically search for documents across all folders in Workspace. It is not quite clear why would described issues apply to the filter itself.

Actually, it does filter across subfolders, which could mean the entire Workspace (that the user has access to).

Your point about the folder location not showing is valid. I’m referring to the other usability issues:

That is also not completely correct – it can filter files in the current folder and its subfolders, i.e. it won’t show files in parent folder or folders above.

As for the issues 2 and 3 – I will forward them as a suggestion to keep the data in filter field when switching to the previous page.
