Deeper integration for Videofiles in presentations

I’d like to suggest some improvements to how videos work in OnlyOffice Presenter: I think the Presenter-Program would genuinely be better, if these changes were integrated.

Play / Pause / Stop as animation triggers:

PowerPoint lets you control video playback through the animation panel, so you can trigger Play, Pause or Stop at specific points in your animation sequence. OnlyOffice doesn’t support this, and when you import a .pptx that uses these animation-based video controls, the animations are just silently dropped instead of being applied. This completely breaks the intended presentation.
So in my opinion, Having Play, Pause and Stop as dedicated animation actions would not only increase compability with the pptx-format, but also make presenter better as a whole.

Media bar visibility:

It would be useful to control whether the video control bar is visible during presentation, For more cinematic or polished presentations, having the controls appear on screen is really annoying: A integration like in powerpoint, where you can turn the media bar on or off for the entire presentation would, in my opinion, be great.

Thank you for reading and considering! :slightly_smiling_face:

Hello @Seraphin and thanks a lot for the very detailed suggestions!

Regarding the animation‑based video controls: we do already have an internal task to add Media → Play / Pause / Stop actions to the animation pane, so that video/audio playback can be controlled via animations and PPTX files that rely on these triggers work as intended. This is tracked internally and your request (including the compatibility point with PowerPoint) has been added to that task as well.

Separately, we are also working on improving the behavior of the video control bar in slideshow mode. There is another feature reques for the player where the control bar should appear on hover over the video and automatically hide again when the cursor leaves the video area, but currently it stays visible and requires a click. This one is about when and how the existing media bar appears and hides, not about turning it off completely for the whole presentation.

Your additional request goes one step further: you’d like an option to completely hide or globally disable the video control bar for a more cinematic, distraction‑free presentation. This is not configurable in ONLYOFFICE at the moment, but your idea makes a lot of sense, and we’ll discuss it with our team as a potential enhancement alongside the existing work on media playback and controls.

I’ve added your feedback to our internal tracker; we’ll update this thread once we have any news to share on this functionality.

Hello, @Seraphin !

Thank you for your suggestion. Regarding your request to completely hide the media control bar during presentation mode, we have registered a separate feature request for this functionality in our internal tracker.

We’ll update this thread as soon as we have any news to share.
