Copying specific images in presentation Editor results in a freeze for a few seconds but does not seem copy the image

The presentation was originally created in Microsoft’s powerpoint, then synced via nextcloud (murena) and when I wanted to continue work on it I encountered the bug.

I have a minimal file I can share ready, but I am not allowed to upload files it appears. It is here anyway: copy_possibly_large_image_freezes_app_demonstration.pptx - Murena

Maybe something is copied to the clipboard, but it is not visible on windows with super+v

In anyway, posting it to a different slide results in nothing

If it is because the image is large, a warning would be appreciated. And pasting should still work, ideally with a message “pasting (large) image” or idk.

Tested on

  • desktop: version 9.0.3.29 (x64 msi)
  • firefox on murena.io: 9.2.1.43

Same behavior

Hello, thank you for the sample file and the detailed description.

We checked the behavior on our side with the provided presentation. In our tests, the image is pasted successfully, although there is a short freeze at the moment of copying, so for now we could not reproduce the part of the issue where nothing gets pasted. Your Desktop Editors version 9.0.3.29 is outdated, and the current Desktop Editors version is 9.3.1, so please update to the latest build first and re-check the same scenario there.

If the problem still persists after the update, please send us:

  • your exact OS version;
  • a short video showing the whole process: selecting the image, pressing Ctrl+C, switching slides, pressing Ctrl+V, and the final result (if the file size is too large for the forum, you can upload the video to any cloud storage and share the link with us here);
  • please also test whether the same image can be copied and pasted into a brand-new empty presentation and let us know the result.

Just checked it with the above versions but also Community version 9.3.1.8 (x64 exe) and was not able to reproduce the bug about he image not being pasted. However, it was still not Showing up in the extended clipboard (windows/super+v) but I assume this is an operating system side problem. Pasting the image to obsidian worked.

However, on firefox I still encountered the freeze. the current behavior is that the curosr becomes invisible. I think having a little bloating symbol would be much better for the purpose because it communicates more clearly that something is expectedly happening a bit longer

Thank you for rechecking everything and for the detailed follow‑up.

It’s great to hear that in the latest Community version 9.3.1.8, the image pastes correctly.

We’ve noted the remaining issue — the freeze during copy and the cursor temporarily disappearing at that moment — and forwarded your description to our team for further review. We’ll update this thread as soon as we have any feedback from our QA team.

Thanks again for the sample file and for taking the time to retest and describe the behavior so thoroughly.

@DonnerWolfBach Thank you once again for your detailed report, the sample file, and for re-checking everything on the latest versions.

We have registered this behavior in our internal bug tracker, so the issue is now officially under investigation by our developers. Your notes about the cursor becoming invisible and the idea of having a clearer loading indicator during the operation are also included in the bug description for consideration.

There is no ETA for a fix yet, but your report and all the extra details you provided were very helpful for narrowing the problem down, so thank you for taking the time to share them.
