Can't connect owncloud

I try to connect to my owncloud server on MacOS with my Desktop editor … on the same owncloud server it is instanly possible with the iOS onlyoffice app!

This is the docs I have read before:

Connecting ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors to ownCloud

ONLYOFFICE allows you to edit the files stored in your ownCloud account and collaborate on them using both online and desktop editors. Thereby, you can use not only online collaboration tools but also the features available in your desktop application only:

  • protecting documents with a password or a digital signature,
  • sending the currently edited file right from the editor using the Send plugin,
  • inserting audio and video via the Presentation Editor.

It’s supposed that you already have ownCloud server, ONLYOFFICE Docs and the integration app installed and configured.

Launch ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors. To connect Desktop Editors to your ownCloud server, perform the following actions:

  1. Switch to the Connect to cloud section on the left side panel.
  2. Click the ownCloud cloud service button. Alternatively, you can use the Connect now link at the bottom.

Connect to cloud tab

  1. If you pressed the ownCloud service button, the Connect to cloud office window opens with the ownCloud selected. If you used the Connect now link, choose the ownCloud cloud storage from the drop-down list.
  • in the Cloud office URL field, enter your ownCloud server domain name or IP address. When ready, click the Connect nowbutton.

Connect to cloud office window

  • The ownCloud sign in page will open in a new tab of the Desktop Editors interface.
    • Specify your Username or email and the Password you use to access your ownCloud account,
    • Click the Log in button.

Connect to cloud office window

The Files section of your ownCloud account will open. Now you can edit your existing files and create new ones, share your documents and collaborate on them with ownCloud users using ONLYOFFICE editors.

To learn more about managing your connected accounts, please refer to this instruction.

It opens like in a browser and whenever I click on a file, it wants to download it… also pretty much like in a browser. Whereas on the iOS App on my mobile phone it really opens the file directly in the app. Do I have to use another application? Is there a setting/right missing?

Hello @promexio
Please provide us with general details about your deployment:

  • ownCloud, the connector app, Document server, the desktop app versions;
  • please describe your ownCloud installation ('I try to connect to my owncloud server on MacOS '), point us to the guide you used;
  • reproduce the situation and record a video file.

Hi Alexandre,

Owncloud version: 10.15.3
Connector app: 9.10.1
Desktop app: 9.1.0
Mobile app: 9.1.0 (1153) / SDK 9.1.0.181 / Konverter: 2.5.565

Kind regards,

Gabriel

Have you deployed the Document Server? If not, please do it or another way, go to the connector app and enable the demo Docs Cloud for a quick test.

I did not. It’s not really included in the documentation and the mobile app works without any additional configuration on the same owncloud server. I don’t get why it’s not working in the desktop editor…

Hello @promexio

Desktop Editors require ONLYOFFICE Docs (Document Server) installed and connected to ownCloud to edit the files. This is technical limitation of the apps’ architecture. Mobile app works in a different way that allows editing files in ownCloud without the Document Server.

This requirement is also stated in the documentation:

  1. Install ONLYOFFICE Docs. Please note that ownCloud server and ONLYOFFICE Docs must be accessible to each other over the network.

There is also whole section dedicated to the installation of Document Server in this guide for Desktop Editors.
