Bold headings, heading structure, lists, and other rich text formatting are frequently stripped during paste operations

Formatting is inconsistently lost when copying AI-generated documentation from into ONLYOFFICE embedded within an EMR platform. Bold headings, heading structure, lists, and other rich text formatting are frequently stripped during paste operations.

This appears related to clipboard handling of HTML/RTF content and may overlap with previously reported AI formatting/paste issues discussed in the ONLYOFFICE forums.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Generate a structured note in Heidi Health containing:

    • Bold headings

    • Bullet lists

    • Structured sections

  2. Copy the generated note.

  3. Paste into ONLYOFFICE editor embedded within a web-based EMR.

  4. Observe formatting behaviour.

Expected Result

  • Bold headings retained

  • Lists retained

  • Rich text formatting preserved

  • HTML/RTF clipboard content interpreted correctly

Actual Result

  • Bold formatting removed

  • Heading structure flattened

  • Lists inconsistently preserved

  • Content often pasted as plain text

Document Server Version

ONLYOFFICE 8.1.3

Windows 11

Browser Version

Chrome (latest stable release)

Additional Information

This issue appears reproducible specifically with AI-generated content copied from Heidi Health.

The same copied content preserves formatting correctly when pasted into:

  • Microsoft Word

  • Outlook

  • Other rich text editors

This suggests the issue may relate to:

  • clipboard MIME type handling

  • HTML/RTF parsing

  • Markdown interpretation

  • embedded editor integration behaviour

There are existing forum discussions referencing similar formatting issues with AI-generated content:
https://community.onlyoffice.com/t/best-practices-for-retaining-formatting-when-pasting-ai-responses-in-onlyoffice/12811

The environment observed is running ONLYOFFICE 8.1.3, and it is possible newer releases have improved handling of rich text clipboard formats.

Hi,

Thank you for the detailed report.

We have tried to reproduce this behavior on our side using a similar workflow (an AI-generated structured note with bold headings and lists pasted into the web editor). The loss of bold and heading formatting is reproducible on older builds, but on the current ONLYOFFICE Docs version (tested on 9.4), the formatting is preserved correctly when pasting.

Since you are currently using ONLYOFFICE 8.1.3, please update your Document Server to the latest available version and check whether the issue persists after the upgrade.

If you still observe formatting being stripped after updating, please let us know your new Docs version, as well as your Nextcloud and ONLYOFFICE integration app versions, and we will investigate further.
