I am new to OO, just began today. The first thing I needed to do was to add my autocorrect preferences, which I use a lot. But I have ended up spending several hours trying to get it to work. Problems are the same on both Win11 and chromebook, in brave and chrome browsers.
Problem 1. Autocorrect just did not work, even with pre-loaded corrections. Using AI help, I tried assuring I had the same language loaded everywhere (English-US), including my main system, and removed plug-ins that might be interfering. (for some reason, in File>Advanced>Autocorrect, the change as you type is labeled “Math AutoCorrect”. not a problem, just weird.
Problem 2. Autocorrect additions that I make disappear when I leave docspace and re-enter.
It is unfortunate, because I spent a lot of time trying to figure out which office suite to use to replace google spyware, and settled on OO as the best option.
The Math AutoCorrect section is intended for equations and special math symbols, so this part is not designed for regular word replacement in normal text.
As for replacing ordinary text while typing, this request has already been registered as an improvement in our internal tracker, and I’ve added your query to it. Unfortunately, we do not have an ETA for its implementation at the moment. We’ll update you here as soon as we have any news to share.
Regarding the entries that disappear, could you please clarify what exactly you mean by “leave DocSpace and re-enter”? Do the added entries disappear after simply closing and reopening the document/browser tab, or only after signing out of the portal and signing in again?
Please also send us your exact DocSpace version and ONLYOFFICE Docs version and, if possible, a short screen recording of the full scenario (if you face a size limit, then you can upload your video to any cloud storage and share a link to it).
When I am in an OO document, none of the autocorrect entries work, even those that are pre-loaded. Perhaps I am using them wrong, but if I type something that is in the autocorrect list, for instance “ ± “ it is not replaced by “ ± “, or “>=” with “≥” as they should be.
Replace text as you type” is checked.
I am trying to, for instance type “al” and have it replaced with “Alabama”. Because this is not a math equation, is it expected to fail?
The other problem – that entries I added did not persist when I closed and re-opened OO or docspace - I have not been able to reproduce today.
What you describe for regular text is expected at the moment. The entries from the Math AutoCorrect list work in the equation editor only: you need to place the cursor inside an equation placeholder, type the corresponding code, and press Space. Codes such as >= are listed in the Math AutoCorrect section, but they are intended for equations rather than for normal text typed in the document body. Please see the video below.
As for the Text AutoCorrect section, it currently does not provide custom text replacement such as al → Alabama for regular text in the document body. This improvement has already been registered on our side, and I’ve added your request to it. We’ll update this thread as soon as we have any news to share.
Regarding the second issue, thank you for checking it again. Since you were not able to reproduce the problem with added entries disappearing after reopening the editor or DocSpace, we cannot confirm this behavior at the moment. If it happens again, please send us a short video showing the full scenario together with the exact reproduction steps.
