Hi. We are trying out OO as we are moving away from MS 365.

My wife only works on an ipad connected to our own server. Is there a way to save an OO document as you go along. It appears that you can only save when exiting which is not good. If this is the case what happens if my wife accidentally shuts down OO or the application crashes after making lots of changes to a document.

Thanks

Hey @jjgarcial,

Thanks for trying ONLYOFFICE and for the feedback — glad you’re considering it as a move away from MS 365!

Just a quick clarification to better understand your setup:
Are you connecting to your own server via one of the default clouds we support (Nextcloud, ownCloud, Dropbox, OneDrive, kDrive), or is it something custom via WebDAV? Not super critical, just curious

Good news:
We already have a logged suggestion for exactly this kind of improvement on mobile/web: internal number 50809
“Add button for forced/manual save in mobile web + toggle for autosave”

It includes:

  • Autosave on/off toggle
  • Save button for manual save (always visible in the menu)

There’s even a rough implementation plan in progress. No exact release date yet

In the meantime, I’ve moved this thread to the Suggestions category so others can vote/upvote it — that really helps raise priority.

Thanks again for your interest and for helping us make it better! :hugs:

Hi Nikolas. Thanks for your reply.

My question applies to when working from inside OO using WebDAV or using the Files app in iOS.

The reason for my question is that it is a bit cumbersome not to have control of when saving a document. If you are working on a document with lots of changes you cant really rely on saving only when exiting the document. If you shut down OO, you run out of battery, or OO crashes you can lose hours worth of work.

We are grateful that you have improved file access support for the Files application so that you can open and save files in your iPad or on our server (NAS) without having to be in the OO sandbox. This was a step in the right direction. A save and autosave as you point out will really make the product complete.

I hope I’ve answered your question and we look forward to a future update.
