I’ve speed-ran my papers and while doing that noticed how my productivity could increase. This block is up to debate, I don’t know whether it’s technically possible to do some of those, but would be great to see these changes and I’d appreciate if you’d give me some thoughts on them:
That would be nice to be able to navigate thorough the paragraph parameters menu.
I know that now the vertical arrows are here to change parameters’ value and horizontal - to move the cursor for the right spot. For my situation, I don’t really make use of them, since in the requirements for my Uni basically all the indents and paragraph intervals are 0 except the left indent that should be 1.25 cm.
So if I create any list I have to click through the parameters to re-value them back to 0. In order to optimize that process, I want either of 3 things: to make arrows lead the navigation between parameters cells, and when you change between them - every time size number is highlighted, so you’d be able to reassign the value without the need to replace the courser to change some part of the value. You can also consider make navigation with
;'./
keys, since they do not impact the value of a parameter anyway (or smth different yet intuitive enough).
Also, you can consider the option to change default parameters of the list - whether as in the selected list (as with the text headings), or to assign and remember default values of the lists (indent parameters and interline internals) in order not to change them according with the same requirements over and over again
Hello @ohmin
It seems you can resolve the situation by changing default template for docx file. The logic of the ONLYOFFICE app is whenever you click ‘create new file’, the pre-made template is used for this action. Please refer to this thread to change default template, so any new files will be created with your custom parameters: How to change the system-font? - #8 by Constantine
If I misunderstood your request, please clarify it.
If I was not the only one who asked about that and there are actually some numbers of people making suggestions and asking questions about changing default parameters, is there a chance you can analyze the idea of adding an ability to change all the defaults (including the list’s indents) parameters somewhere in the editor itself, rather then changing a template file in the corresponding folder? Like, adding a new tool tab, next to the “plugins” for example, where you could switch parameters of all the main elements, such as lists (both numerical and normal with “-”) and others.
So there would be a way to change default font and indents in the document by switching parameters in the editor itself, while, for example, under the hood a user will actually edit the “new.docx” file by replacing the old template with a new one after saving the parameters’ changes in a dedicated toolbar. I don’t know if that’s technically possible, but it’s more of a curiosity, as for an average user, in my opinion, more intuitive way to change defaults fast would be to switch something in the text editor itself, rather then changing default template file in Program files. From my personal experience, I couldn’t find anything alike in couple of minutes, so being in the rush, I’ve just excepted there was no such thing in the moment and got away with switching defaults all the time
Hello @ohmin
Just to confirm that we are on the same page. Do i understand it right that you suggest to implement new feature with overwrite default templates for new file creations via the editor interface? For example, a user changed fonts, paragraph settings, etc. > clicks a button called ‘Change default template’ > all newly created files would open with those saved changes.
Please confirm my understanding.
Overall as I see it, it’s a new tab on the main tools panel, that contains multiple templates of the text paragraphs, different lists and so on. If you toggle the settings of a list template, it will automatically be created with a set parameters every time you press “create a list” in the current document and in every new one as it is overwriting a default list template.
I don’t know if a text explanation is informative enough, so I want you to thoroughly look at the screenshot and maybe you’ll get the general idea from it
The main principal of changing default parameters on this tab descends from how “list parameters” tab is currently functioning: you open up “parameters” and there are white lines representing text and by changing parameters of it you can see how template is changing correspondingly.
The reason to implement this suggestion of editing default templates in editor is to embrace “work flow” experience, when user is focused on the contents of a paper without fine-tuning lists’ indents, interline intervals etc. every single time. It will have a place at the very beginning of a paper, when a user will set all the indents according to the professor’s requirements. And as the requirements don’t change from beginning of a paper till its end, the effect of the change will linearly scale with the number of tables and lists, since the change will auto-apply to them, having a accumulative positive impact.
However, I want to heavily emphasize that with every single existing and extra tools that require to look up the button in the Editor’s tool bar, the need to be able to upscale UI size also linearly increases with the number of such navigation elements. So that, in order to be efficient enough with high-order editor’s features, such as the proposed default templates editing, a user in some cases has to put an extra strain on one’s eyes, since the navigation buttons, tool names, icons and other UI elements are hard to physically notice on some monitors with high resolution.
If the purposed change will be considered useful and ultimately coded into the live version of the product, I suggest that the adjacent update or even it’s predecessor has to do something with up-scaling UI elements to make the most use of the aforementioned suggested features
Hello @ohmin
At the moment, we aren’t ready to agree with your suggestion. Duplicating some of the functionality in separate interface tab seems excessive. For now, we will keep the current system for working with templates, but we agree that some things should be changed. For example implementing a custom path for templates so that user can set it independently. We believe it will simplify the process of changing the default templates.
Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience. We assure you that we welcome ideas from the community and review each of them. I will keep this thread open in case this idea gains support from the community. This way, perhaps we will discuss it again in the future.
Having been thinking about that functionality additions for some time I have a probably slightly better version of the suggestion. I would like to propose more of an accurate one, rather than the whole new main-tools tab. As the result we might find some form of a middle-ground solution. I’ll describe it below and would like to hear your thoughts on it.
When you click on the arrow to the right of a list in the main tool bar and find the “List parameters” menu, there are some things I can toggle to correct the template throughout a document. Like, a symbol type, font’s size and so on (screenshot).
First point of the suggestion, is that in the “List parameters” tab you can change the alignment of a text of a list, like, to the left, to the right or in the center of a page. But you can’t align it by the width (Ctrl + J), which is the common requirement for the papers. So, I would like to see this option available in the parameters’ list.
Second one, is that, as you can see from the screenshot, you can, again, change the alignment and list’s text size, but you can’t change another integrate part of a list - line intervals and indents, that are still automatically being set. I understand that creating some duplicate functionality in the whole new tab is excessive, but if you’d give me an option to be fully in control of the list’s template by toggling all the parameters (not only text size, markers and such, but also interline spaces and indents) in that “List parameters” tab, that might actually be less complicated to implement and yet pretty useful as well.
Also, wanted to ask your opinion on changing UI size, is that a good idea and/or be implemented some time? I’d personally would genuinely love to see it live

It’s already implemented for self-hosted Document servers: Customization - White label | ONLYOFFICE
As for the Desktop app, we need some time to discuss it. I will contact you shortly.
As for the refined suggestion on changing default templates through the editor’s interface, unfortunately we cannot agree with it at the moment. So far, we will stick with the current logic of templates work.
Please accept our sincere apologies. However, we will keep this thread open to check how important this idea for the Community.

Probably I missed something. Could you please show this scenario step-by-step? Did you mean multilevel list in this scenario?
