Location of ~ lock files, impact on modification date of parent folder

Issue: When opening a document, OnlyOffice creates a ~ lock file in the same folder as the original file. This modifies the timestamp of the parent folder. I keep files and folders sorted by modification date, so that recent files automatically show up at the top. The folder date modification becomes an issue.

I found no setting or way to modify this behavior.

OnlyOffice did not used to do this until recently. As far as I understand, it placed these ~ lock files elsewhere. This seems to have changed in recent versions, although I see nothing like this in the change log.

I understand that Microsoft Office does this too. So does LibreOffice. However, this in itself was an important reason why I have been using OnlyOffice.

OS version: Windows 11

Hello @Alok
We’re checking the situation, I will contact you shortly.

Hello @Alok
We have checked the previous version of the app, and the behavior is the same as in the latest version.
Unfortunately, we are not planning to change this behavior at the moment.

Looking at my records, when I had installed OnlyOffice on May 28, 2025, this issue was not there. Something seems to have changed since then.

Hello @Alok

Thanks for mentioning older version, we’ll do some additional testing to confirm. Please await my feedback.

UPD: After the version 9.1 we have adjusted locks to make sure that no other app can access the file when Desktop Editors edits it by placing them in respective folder. I’m afraid that this behavior is necessary for correct work, thus there is no way to change this behavior. Moving locks to another directory is not possible.

If this situation causes problems for your workflow, I may only suggest installing version 9.0.3 with older locking mechanism (honestly, not recommended).
