I am writing to suggest a feature enhancement for the “Find and Replace” tool in OnlyOffice Document Editor.
Currently, in Microsoft Word, users can perform a Find and Replace based on specific formatting. For example, if a document contains three different fonts, a user can search for text specifically in “Font A” and replace its color, size, or style, while leaving “Font B” and “Font C” completely untouched, even if the characters are the same.
Why this is important:
When working with complex documents that use multiple fonts or styles (such as multilingual documents or branded reports), it is essential to be able to target specific formatting attributes (Font name, size, color) within the Replace tool without affecting the rest of the document.
Requested Functionality:
Add a “Format” or “Advanced” button within the Find and Replace dialog that allows users to:
Filter the “Find” results by Font Name, Size, or Style.
Apply specific formatting changes to the “Replace” results (e.g., changing only the color of a specific font).
I believe this feature would significantly improve the workflow for advanced users transitioning from MS Word to OnlyOffice.
Thank you for your continuous hard work and for providing such a great tool.
In addition to our previous suggestions, I would like to specifically propose the integration of “Wildcards” in the Search and Replace tool, similar to the functionality in Microsoft Office.
The Role and Importance of Wildcards:
Wildcards serve as powerful search placeholders, allowing for advanced pattern matching within documents. Their implementation would provide the following capabilities:
Advanced Pattern Search: Users can use operators like * (any string of characters) or ? (any single character) to locate variations of terms efficiently.
Structural Editing: It enables finding specific formats, such as “any word starting with ‘A’ and ending with ‘Z’” or identifying specific numerical sequences.
Bulk Data Cleaning: It is essential for professional document management, such as removing redundant spaces, adjusting punctuation patterns, or reformatting large sets of data automatically.
Adding this feature would be a significant step in enhancing the efficiency of ONLYOFFICE for power users and professional environments.
Thank you for the additional details and suggestion. This request regarding wildcard support has already been registered in our internal tracker, and your feedback has been added there as well.
We’ll update you as soon as we have any news to share.
