Building desktop editors for ARM64 Linux, possible?

Hello, I’m one of the many users who signed up here just to show my interest into ARM64 OO builds. There not only are ARM development boards and SBCs nowadays, there are more and more laptops with ARM SoCs being sold. This comment is in even written on one of them, a ThinkPad X13s.

Another Asahi Linux user here. I’d also love to have an ARM64 version of the editors. Currently having to use LibreOffice on my laptop and I’d much prefer to be using OnlyOffice.

If you need someone to test it, please contact me. I have been using an SBC with Armbian as a desktop computer for over a year.

Thank you very much for your willingness to help! We really appreciate it, and we’ll definitely keep your offer in mind if we need testers for this. Thanks again!

This open for two years. Is there at least some timeline?

Hello @stephan182730
Unfortunately, the work is still in progress. Right now, we cannot provide an ETA.

Pure fan of asahi linux, best linux distribution ever, I would love to be able to use onlyoffice desktop

I’m using a new Snapdragon X Elite Laptop running Concept Ubuntu and would relly like to use OnlyOffice there. Currently I have to write my University essays on another PC using a x86_64 architecture. Feel free to add me to the interested users list too.

Added, we will update this thread once we have something to share.

Hi, I think arm64 builds could also be useful for the Linux containers on Chromebooks instead of just supporting the limited Android version. You could publish installation guides specifically for it, similar to what Mozilla does for Firefox on ChromeOS: Get Firefox Browser for Chromebook — Firefox (Their guide is relatively complex and could obviously be simplified, it’s just a project I know that does this.)

Thank you for your sharing @Lenni

With Android 16 AVF, now many flagship android devices support running a full-fleged Linux using VM with GUI support (Google also has a plan to add GPU to that). As an Android power user, I look forward to see that OnlyOffice would be able to run on it. Grateful for letting us know for any progress. Thanks!

Hello @knyipab
It seems your scenario is slightly different from the main thread (ARM64 support). However, it sounds interesting. If you can point us to the AVF documentation, we will check it out.

It is related to ARM64 support because most Android devices are ARM64. More specifically, it is a feature called “Terminal app” which is Debian VM and can be toggled in developer options of Android 16 devices (more recent phones with higher Linux kernel level required). This terminal app supports GUI natively and Google seems to add GPU acceleration. There is no much official documentation and you may refer to news such as Android will soon run Linux apps better, and that's great for Google's PC plans. Also, Android 16 now has a better Desktop mode when it is connected to monitor through cable such as type-c-to-HDMI. This Desktop mode + Terminal app GUI basically turn Android devices into a full fledged Linux (mostly ARM64).

In the old days, power users may use Samsung’s DeX + Termux GUI to achieve Linux desktop (with a lot of restrictions). But now with Android 16+, many new phones (unfortunately except snapdragon chips for now) can use full Linux desktop, and it is officially supported by Google.

Hi there! I switched over to Asahi Linux yesterday and was heartbroken when I saw that onlyoffice wasn’t available yet, as I found it an incredibly suitable alternative to MS Office as I no longer have access to MS services. I understand that it is a bit of a process but it would be the finishing touch to my workflow if onlyoffice was brought to aarch64. Thanks again!
